Our Story
Recon Procurement was established by Rod and Rhonda Brennan in Cairns, Far North Queensland.
The company was developed from their other business, Recon Sport, which involves the procurement of consumable sporting, fitness and rehabilitation equipment to the Australian Defence Force and Pacific Island Defence and Police Forces.
Rod served Australia as a member of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) for over 24 years, initially as a Bosuns Mate and Survival Equipment Maintainer, before becoming a Physical Training Instructor. This physical training role enabled Rod to pursue his passion for fitness and build upon his leadership, managerial and instructional skills. These skills were recognised through various service commendations which included the Conspicuous Service Medal (CSM) for exceptional service and dedication to duty. In 2018, Rod sustained a career ending injury and was medically discharged from the RAN.
Rhonda pursued her career in sales and marketing throughout the USA, UK and Europe before returning to Australia to take up a senior sales position for a Japanese Hotel chain. Rhonda’s organisational skills, logistics knowledge and customer focus transferred into the Beauty Industry for worldwide company L’Oreal with whom she was employed for 10 years before being enticed to join rival Wella Professionals in a similar role. Rhonda excelled in both employments where each company experienced unprecedented growth across her allocated region.
Soon after both Rod and Rhonda left their full time careers, Rod discovered a ‘niche market’ when an idea was developed into a business and Recon Sport was created in 2019. This new business very quickly became a preferred supplier of sporting goods for the Department of Defence. Rod’s tenacity, determination and familiarity with the industry gave him opportunities to deal direct with suppliers on behalf of Defence and negate the requirement for his clients having to deal with multiple suppliers for substantial size orders. Favourable reports from the customers ensured the business flourished.
An opportunity to provide a quotation for gymnasium equipment for a Pacific island nation arose, and following the successful execution of this task, quotations were then offered on other goods such as household furniture resulting in the establishment of Recon Procurement.
